Ahead of the Republic Day function at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 on January 26, the Chandigarh Police has issued traffic restrictions and diversions of the routes in the city.
According to the police, the routes, Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout to Gurdial Singh petrol pump in Sector 22-A on Udyog Path; old district courts in Sector 17 to Shivalik Hotel (on the rear side of Parade Ground); Lyon’s Restaurant light point near Municipal Corporation office in Sector 17 to Parade Ground; Sector 22/23 light point to Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout; Sector 16/23 small chowk to Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout; shall remain closed from 6.30 am onwards on January 26 till the function concludes.
The police said that the buses heading towards ISBT-17 will be diverted from Kisan Bhavan chowk and Piccadilly chowk via Himalaya Marg to reach ISBT-17 from a small chowk (near the Gurdial Singh petrol pump). At time of dispersal between (11.30 am to 12.15 pm), only buses will be allowed to ply on the stretch.
It has been told by the traffic police that the invitees must be seated by 9:15 am at Parade Ground in Sector 17, Chandigarh. Special invitees should enter from gate numbers 4, 6, and 7 (opposite Sector 22). “General public should enter from gate numbers 8, 9, and 10 (opposite ISBT Sector 17). All attendees must carry a valid photo ID card. Special invitees must display the authorised parking label on their vehicle and carry the invitation card. Attendees should not bring bags, matches, knives, cigarettes, weapons, liquor, inflammables, electronics, black flags, banners, or posters,” the traffic police said.
On the parking, the police added that the special invitees shall park in front of the market in Sector 22-A, and the general public shall park in Sector 22-B, Circus Ground, Sector 17, near Neelam Cinema, multi-storey parking, and parking lots in Sector 17.
The police have also clarified that in view of the ‘At Home’ event, there will be restrictions on the traffic movement around the Punjab Raj Bhawan on Republic Day.
Movement on the stretch opposite the Raj Bhawan from the Sector 5/6/7/8 roundabout till the T-point of Vigyan Path and Sukhna Path shall remain restricted or diverted for the general public from 3 pm till the function gets over, according to the police.
The police said that rehearsal for Republic Day 2025 will be held on January 24 from 9.30 am to 10.15 am at Parade Ground in Sector 17.
The roads from — Chief Secretary residence in Sector 7 to Sector 5/6-7/8 Chowk, Sector 4/5-8/9 chowk, New Barricade chowk, Old Barricade chowk, towards War Memorial, Bouganvilla Garden in Sector 3; from War Memorial to Old Barricade chowk, Matka chowk, Sector 16/17 light point, Lyons light point, and Parade Ground in Sector 17, will be restricted during 9.30 am to 10.15 am, added the police.https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/chandigarh/ahead-of-republic-day-chandigarh-police-issues-traffic-advisory-9796003/
