Bengaluru will face daily 8-hour power cuts in several areas until February 18 due to infrastructure upgrades under the Atal Bhujal project. BESCOM has urged residents to plan ahead and cooperate.
Bangalore Power Cut: Bengaluru residents are bracing for a series of power cuts lasting up to eight hours daily from February 7 to February 18. The scheduled outages have been announced by BESCOM (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited) due to ongoing infrastructure work under the Atal Bhujal project. Areas Affected by Power Cuts BESCOM has released a detailed schedule for the affected localities: February 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17:Hanumantapura, Kuvempu Nagar, Adarsha Nagar, Anetota, Jagannathapura, Sharadadevi Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Nirvani Layout
February 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18: Govindnagar, Housing Board, Gubbi Gate, Kuntammanatota, Ditturu, BH Paly, Honnenahalli Road, Haronahalli.
Why Are Power Cuts Frequent in Bengaluru? The current outages are part of essential work under the Atal Bhujal project, a large-scale water management initiative aimed at
improving groundwater resources. The project requires extensive upgrades to the city’s power infrastructure, making temporary power disruptions unavoidable. Frequent power cuts in Bengaluru are often linked to infrastructure maintenance and development activities by BESCOM and KPTCL(Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited). These outages are usually planned during weekends and non-peak hours to minimise the impact on residents and businesses. While BESCOM strives to conduct these maintenance activities efficiently, the growing demands on the city’s power grid due to rapid urbanisation further contribute to the need for periodic disruptions.
BESCOM’s Request to Residents BESCOM has advised residents to plan their activities in advance, keeping the power outages in mind. They have also appealed for cooperation to ensure smooth execution of the project. Though inconvenient, these temporary power cuts are expected to contribute to long-term improvements in Bengaluru’s infrastructure, making it better equipped to handle future challenges.
