Guillain-Barre Syndrome: Pune Reports Another Death, Statewide Cases at 192

The deceased was a driver from Upper Indiranagar, Bibwewadi, Pune. His symptoms began on January 31, when he started experiencing weakness. Pune: Maharashtra has recorded another death due to Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), increasing the state’s total fatalities to seven. A 37-year-old man from Pune succumbed to the illness at Kamla Nehru Hospital on Sunday (February 9) night. Meanwhile, the number of GBS cases in the state has reached 192, with 167 confirmed diagnoses.

The deceased was a driver from Upper Indiranagar, Bibwewadi, Pune. His symptoms began on January 31, when he started experiencing weakness. Initially, he was admitted to Bharati Hospital, Pune. However, his family shifted him to Nipani for treatment on February 1, where his condition failed to improve.

GBS Cases Continue to Rise in Pune & Maharashtra According to the latest health department report, Pune has recorded the highest number of GBS cases in the state. The district-wise distribution is as follows: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) area: 39 cases Recently merged villages in PMC: 91 cases Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC): 29 cases Pune rural areas: 25 cases Other districts in Maharashtra: 8 cases At present, 48 GBS patients are admitted to ICUs, while 21 patients require ventilator support. Despite the growing numbers, 91 patients have recovered and been discharged so far, according to the health department.

As his health deteriorated, he was transferred to Bharati Hospital, Sangli but showed further decline. Eventually, on February 5, he was admitted to Kamla Nehru Hospital in Pune, where he died during treatment on February 9, according to the State Health Department.
