In light of the ongoing construction for Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) project, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police have announced a temporary traffic diversion that will affect the Sivagnanam Street entry to Venkatanarayana Road. The diversion will be in place from 25 November to 1 December 2024, as a part of the work from Panagal Park towards Venkatanarayana Road.
As per the new traffic arrangement, vehicles coming from Thyagaraya Road via Sivagnanam Street intending to travel to Venkatanarayana Road will not be permitted. Instead, drivers will be required to continue straight on Thyagaraya Road and Thanikachalam Road to reach Venkatanarayana Road.
However, local traffic on Sivagnanam Street will remain unaffected. Vehicles will still be allowed to ply in both directions between Thyagaraya Road and JYM Kalyana Mandapam for the convenience of local residents.
The traffic police have requested motorists to cooperate with the new arrangements and avoid any inconvenience during the trial period.
Passengers have been complaining about walking long distance to reach pick-up point at the Chennai Airport. The complaints started from July when the authorities shifted the pick-up point to the parking lot (Aerohub West). To fix the situation, authorities started building a tube connecting three terminals at the Chennai Airport. This tube is expected to be ready by 2025, said the officials.
Flyers have opposed the airport’s move to shift the pick-up point as they have to walk a long distance to board their prepaid cabs. According to them, there is an inadequacy of lifts to reach different floors, and lack of facilities to carry luggage. Though there are buggies to ferry the flyers, the latter are not convinced. Complaints continued to pour, asking for an immediate solution,
